Finding a Mentor – Is it Worth Your Time?

It’s natural for us to think we can achieve our goals by ourselves. It’s definitely a possibility if you work hard enough, but in most cases we waste time and energy trying to reinvent the wheel. Finding someone who has already done what you are trying to do is crucial if we want to obtain success in the shortest amount of time. Finding a good mentor can help you save time, provide much needed experience from the school of hard knocks, and provide connections that may take years to develop.

The value of a good mentor is immeasurable when it comes to learning the tricks of the trade. In some industries it takes years and thousands of dollars to complete the research necessary to compete with those who have a team of individuals working with them. A good mentor can provide the experience necessary to help you avoid the common pitfalls associated with your chosen career path or venture.

Experience is the greatest teacher of all. Those who have achieved great success “failed” many times before they were able to reap the benefits of their hard work.

“Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.” – Douglas Noel Adams

Master networkers are individuals who realize that networking is a life skill, not just something you do when you want something. It’s important to connect with people, create contacts with spheres of influence, and form win–win strategic alliances and mastermind groups.

Don’t rush into finding someone who can help shape the path of your life. The most powerful people are those who share information and don’t hide it from others. These people also don’t like wasting their time with people who have don’t have what it takes to buckle down and work hard enough to achieve success.

It’s time to get focused and take your life seriously. You wouldn’t expect your favorite sports team to get very far without a coach, so why expect the same for yourself?
