Newsflash: The Future Doesn’t Exist
If you watch the news every now and then you will see people who are in freak accidents that cost them their lives. I’m sure many of us personally know people this has happened to. The fact of the matter is, there is no such thing as “the future”. The future is a false reality we create in our minds. You are probably thinking:
“Hmm, this sounds like a depressing article. What are you trying to tell us?”
Sometimes we focus so much on the future we fail to value the now as we should.
Examples of this would be:
- Putting things off until a later date. (procrastination)
- Being comfortable in our present state because we have hope for the future….yet never taking any steps to see that future turn into reality.
- Not being thankful for the things we have right now and worrying about what everyone else has achieved.
- Treating people we care about like trash when they could be gone the next second.
- Wasting time and emotions on things that don’t matter.
Projecting too much of what we want in the future can ruin your enjoyment of “the now”. If we are to create and enjoy anything in the future, we have to do it today.
If what you imagine your life to be in the future doesn’t exist in some shape or form right now, your future won’t become a reality.
Basic Examples:
Person 1:”I want to be wealthy in the future.”
If person one isn’t doing something right now that can possible change his or her future, the chances of success are slim.
Person 2:”I want to be married and enjoy life with a loving husband/wife”
If this person isn’t actively meeting new people on a regular basis, how will he or she ever find the person of their dreams? Try thinking outside the box. Would you want to live with anyone who acts the way you act?
Let’s stop living in denial. If you are working at a job you hate, not making enough money to be comfortable, fat and unhealthy, lonely, hate your life, or whatever, stop thinking things will magically change. Do something about it.
- Don’t be afraid.
- Don’t come up with excuses.
- Don’t put it off.
We must accept the reality of our current situation, enjoy and be thankful for what we do have, and work hard to change what we don’t. If you died in the next thirty minutes, can you honestly say you did everything you could to enjoy life? Would you die with no regrets?
