Unemployment is Healthy
According to Geoff Colvin of Fortune magazine,
“The truth, little known but well documented, is that death rates decline and healthy living habits improve in tough economic times. Extensive research by Christopher J. Ruhm, an economist at the University of North Caroline, shows that a one-percentage-point rise in unemployment rate reduces the death rate by 0.5%. Those are U.S. results, but other studies show the same effect in Spain, Germany, and the 23 OECD countries in aggregate.”
The article goes on to state that the main reason people are healthier is not that they are biking to work and can’t afford junk food, it’s the free time they have. More time for sleep, more time for exercise, and more time to enjoy life.
Most prescription medicines are prescribed to treat the symptoms and not the cause. The politicians are attempting to reform health care but are focusing on how the costs are paid for and not altering the lifestyle of US citizens. Before this potential rant becomes too political let’s address how this relates to our success.
Our number one goal should be to obtain more of our most valuable asset…
If you haven’t been reading this website from the beginning, you may not know that one of our most valuable assets is time. Myself (Willie Long III) and many of my associates are working extremely hard now to increase the chances of a brighter future. This is great, but the main goal should be to free up time. If we don’t, we will miss the time we could have spent with family. Once you obtain the free time you desire, your children may be in college. It’s a good chance they may not have time for you. We need to work on three things:
Automation, Delegation, and Replication
If you find yourself running out of free time, you may want to take advantage of technology to automate some tasks you do manually.
Don’t be afraid to delegate tasks to someone else so you can spend more time on profitable pursuits.
Once you find a system that works, we need to do it over, and over again. There are successful businessmen and women who are able to create very lucrative streams of income because they have figured out a system that works for them.
Persistence is the key.

Automation, Delegation and Replication – all to be done with the objective to be achieved in mind. Too often we spend time being busy for the sake of being busy – just to fulfill our psychological needs that we have accomplished this this and that in this time frame.
